Following the successful award of €10 million in highly competitive European funding, the pan-European Master for High-Performance Computing (EUMaster4HPC) will continue its mission to educate the next generation of advanced computing experts.
The programme entered its second phase with the signing of the Grant Agreement on 15 July 2026. The initiative is coordinated by the University of Luxembourg and funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, a European partnership bringing together the European Union, participating countries and private partners to strengthen Europe’s supercomputing ecosystem and advance research, innovation and skills in high-performance computing. The newly secured funding will support the programme for a further six years and enable it to educate up to 400 students.
Applications are open until 15 August 2026 for undergraduate students from STEM disciplines with strong programming skills. The programme also offers financial support in the form of mobility grants, intended to support students’ participation in extracurricular activities and mandatory international mobility.
Starting in September 2026, the programme will expand its curriculum with an additional focus on artificial intelligence and quantum computing. These new components respond to Europe’s growing need for specialists at the intersection of HPC and emerging technologies, ensuring that graduates develop not only advanced technical expertise but also the interdisciplinary skills required to innovate and lead in a rapidly evolving computational landscape.
The EUMaster4HPC consortium brings together 43 partners from 23 countries, with Prof. Marko Rančić of the University of Luxembourg serving as Project Coordinator. This broad European collaboration reflects a shared commitment to developing world-class talent and strengthening the continent’s HPC ecosystem.
Students enrolled in the programme complete their studies at two partner universities of their choice, earning a double degree while benefiting from international mobility across Europe. Through academic exchanges and internships with research centres, supercomputing centres and industry partners, they gain hands-on experience in addressing real-world challenges in fields such as climate modelling, bioinformatics, aerospace engineering, materials science and financial simulation.
Following a successful four-year pilot phase, the programme will continue to champion interdisciplinarity, international collaboration and excellence in education. The second phase will further expand opportunities through open calls for additional awarding universities, broadening the programme’s reach and impact across Europe.

Graduates of EUMaster4HPC leave the programme with advanced technical expertise and a strong professional network within the European HPC community. They pursue careers in leading supercomputing centres, research organisations and industry, while nearly half continue their academic journey through doctoral studies.
